Revisions for Recycling - October 1, 2007

There have been some changes in what can be recycled in Sac County. We can now recycle plastics #1 through #7. Wash out the containers and remove the lids. They CANNOT accept motor oil, vegetable oil, antifreeze, or farm chemical containers.

Pop and beer cartons can now be recycled, too. They must also be broken down. They must be boxed or bundled separately from other cardboard.

Hazardous WastesThere is more good news! Household Hazardous Materials can now be disposed of any time of the year, we don’t have to wait for a special day every other year. Household hazardous materials must be taken to the Sac County Landfill for proper disposal. Examples of hazardous household materials or wastes are:
  • Household cleaners—floor and furniture polishes, oven cleaner, kitchen and bath cleaners, drain opener, disinfectants, and rug and upholstery cleaners.
  • Home improvement—oil based paint, stain, paint thinner/stripper, varnish, caulk and adhesives.
  • Pesticides—insecticide, insect repellent, weed killer, mouse poison, pet spray, moth balls, and many gardening products.
  • Automotive—gasoline, windshield wiper fluid, car wax and cleaners, solvents, brake fluid, and body putty.
  • Others—pool chemicals, photo processing chemicals, artists paint (cadmium yellow and cobalt blue) and batteries.
When these types of wastes are improperly disposed of they can create environmental damage. Call the landfill at 1-712-662-4895 for more information or to make an appointment to drop off hazardous household wastes.

Instructions for "Recycling Materials for Sac County" may be picked up at the City Clerk's Office.
